Time Out (Alex)

Dieting Tip: Treat soda like it's candy, not a drink. Most sodas and candy are almost equal in their amount of sugar.

  Time Out (Alex) Replied:

I don't drink sodas, however I know a lot of people that this is a problem for them.

  Aunt Jan Replied:

How about diet soda. I drink a couple of cans a day.

  Lyn Replied:

No soda for me!

  Jeanne- CE! Replied:

No sodas for me except for a very occasional clean-approved root beer float as a special treat (we're talking 1-2 times a year!) I'm all for everyone doing research and making decisions accordingly, but I cannot personally justify sodas as a regular part of wellness.

  cheryl Replied:

Good question, what about diet soda? I drink maybe 1 a day, some days none my main beverage is water.

  Time Out (Alex) Replied:

I'm not an expert and I only know what I've read. From everything I've read if you are going to drink soda drink regular not diet. Diet supposedly is even worse. There are some videos out there that show what happens to your body after you drink soda and the shock it puts on your system. I've shown these to my kids and they don't even want to drink it. We drink sparkling water like dasani and we all enjoy them.
If you drink soda I suggest you do some research, it might put you over the edge to quit. Copy and paste the links below to a new page and read on. Let me know what you think.

  Lyn Replied:

I have heard the same, diet is worse than regular. They say it actually makes you crave more food and the aspartame is so bad for you. I believe this played a big part in my fathers alzheimer's. For me, none of it is worth it anymore. At first I missed it but now I do not, I opened one up a while back and couldn't even finish half of it, once you clean up your diet your taste buds adjust and they only want real food, the processed stuff that I used to enjoy is no good to me anymore. It didn't happen overnight, but it did happen.

  Gwen Replied:

I am ever so glad I never drank any kind of soda. It is unhealthy food I eat! I love these posts because we can all do our own research and make decisions.

  cheryl Replied:

Wow, thanks for the info! I'll have to find an alternative when I want something more then my water.

  Aunt Jan Replied:

I have decided to give up soda and diet soda, and will start that tomorrow. Alex thanks for all the info you provided. It was the basis for my decision.

Cheryl - Have you decided to give up soda and diet soda, too?

  Lyn Replied:

You may go through some withdrawals at first but stick with it and you will be happy you gave it up!

  Stevia Replied:

When I drink any kind of soda I put on 3 lbs. weight and don't know why so I experimented and didn't drink any for a week, drank one, weighed right after and BAM! 3 lb. gain. So I am not drinking them anymore and using those flavored Stevia drops added to my cold water ~ no weight gain and tastes great; my favorite is grape! Anyone else use the drops?

  Lyn Replied:

I forgot about those, I had them years ago.

  Time Out (Alex) Replied:

I drink sparkling water by Dasani, their is nothing in it. You can add your own fruits to it and it's bubbly which makes you feel like you are drinking more than water.

I'm happy those articles helped. My husband stopped drinking soda a few years back after reading something similar. He buys organic concentrate juices like cranberry and black cherry and adds about 2 table spoons to water. It's all natural and gives the water flavor.

  Gwen Replied:

I like the sound of the flavoured Stevia drops, will need to look out for them.

  Cindy H. Replied:

I really like sparkling water ... I had a Diet Pepsi last night and the caffeine kept me up! I try to cut out caffeine after 2 p.m. -- need to remember my own rules!

  cheryl Replied:

I didn't know there was Stevia drops, I'll have to check them out.

Jan, No I haven't given soda up, yet but I have a bottle in the fridge and that will be my last one!

Stevia, was that diet soda that gives you the 3 pound gain? I'm struggling with my weights I lose 2 and gain 1 so I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

  Cedric Replied:

I drink "water enhancers" when I want a shot of sweetness. Don't recommend if it you've already weaned yourself off of soda and diet soda, though!
