Things You Didn't Know Came From the Ocean

Rjaatt

Our lakes and oceans are a treasure trove of edible delights,There are actually many varieties of edible sea plants, all with different health benefits and nutritional composition. From blue, green and red algae to kelp and other types of salty seaweed. "Do you eat ocean foods?"
Ice cream contains carrageenan
Yogurt contains agar, a marine-based ingredient used as a thickening agent
Salad dressing contains algin, a form of brown algae
Shampoos and cake mixes contain kelp
Allergy medicine's anti-inflammatory properties were derived from sea whip corals.
(salt, sand, gravel, and some manganese, copper, nickel, iron, and cobalt)

1. Wakame, 2. Dulse, 3. Spirulina, 4. Kombu, 5. Nori, 6. Carrageen Moss, 7. Arame, 8. Chlorella, 9. Sea Grapes.

The plastics now in oceans are sickening

Yes! They are they have caused a lot of problems not only for the ocean and fish life the coral reef has been damaged. However! That will not stop society from

Genesis : SEAFISH What you should or can eat and what you should not to keep the oceans healthy! To bad Humans Don't Listen to Advice!

CLEAN: bass, bluefish, butter fish, cod, croaker, rusk, flounder, grouper, haddock, hake, halibut, herring, kipper, ling cod, mullet, pilchard, pollock, pompano, porg, red snapper, rose fish, salmon, sardine, sea trout, shad, sole, whiting.

UNCLEAN: blue marlin, eel, lamprey, mackerel, octopus, squid, swordfish, tuna, turbot, whale, crab, lobster, shrimp, oyster, scallops, and prawns. These Creatures are to clean the bottom of the ocean and keep it healthy! They are also for the "filter feeder" It feeds on plankton including copepods, krill, fish eggs, these wonderful mammals keep our oceans clean and healthy.

The deepest part of the ocean is called the Challenger Deep and is located beneath the western Pacific Ocean in the southern end of the Mariana Trench, which runs several hundred kilometers southwest of the U.S. territorial island of Guam. Challenger Deep is approximately 36,200 feet deep.

Even at 36,000 Feet Deep, Ocean Creatures Have Plastic in Their Guts. No spot in the ocean has escaped the rain of plastic pollution. Not even the bottom of the Mariana Trench.

A new study finds that crustaceans dwelling at the bottom of the 36,000-foot-deep (10,970 meters) trench have microplastics in their guts. In fact, across six deep-ocean trenches in the Pacific, not one was free of plastic contamination, 32,800 feet (10,000 meters) in the Kermadec Trench in the South Pacific, and as far down as 33,600 feet (10,250 m) in the north Pacific Mariana Trench. Out of six trenches sampled -- the Mariana, the Japan, the Izu-Bonin, the Peru-Chile, the New Hebrides and the Kermadec -- the researchers found none free of plastics.

Among the tiny bits of plastic found in the animals' guts were fibers like rayon, lyocell, ramie and nylon, as well as polyethylene, polyamide and polyvinyls. Polyethylene is the plastic used to make plastic grocery bags and plastic bottles. Polyamide is used in synthetic fibers. Polyvinyls include polyvinyl chloride, or PVC, a plastic used in everything from pipes to insulation to credit cards.

There are as many as 5 trillion individual pieces of plastic afloat in the sea, weighing more than 250,000 tons (227,000 metric tons). rivers alone dump up to 2.4 million tons (2.2 million metric tons) of plastics into the ocean each year, with 86 percent of this plastic pollution coming from rivers in Asia.

Why do you need to know this information: Diets 89.3% of them tell Americans to Eat Fish! Eating fish once or twice a week may also reduce the risk of stroke, depression, Alzheimer's disease, and other chronic conditions. Over 80% of Americans reported consuming ocean seafood over the past 30 days, 74% reported consuming freshwater fish, and 54% reported eating shellfish. Fish can absorb toxic chemicals that have been dumped into waterways, but they can also get them from eating plastic. This also means every time you consume ocean fish, or shrimp, lobster you have a 99.9% of digesting plastics. Please think about that the next time you consume fish!

1907
The first plastic based on a synthetic polymer was made from phenol and formaldehyde, with the first viable and cheap synthesis methods invented in 1907, by Leo Hendrik Baekeland, a Belgian-born American living in New York state. 90 percent of all the plastic that reaches the world's oceans gets flushed through just 10 rivers: The Yangtze-East China Sea, the Indus- Asia, Yellow River-China, Hai River-China, the Nile-Africa, the Ganges- India, Pearl River-China, Amur River-Russian- China, the Niger-Africa, and the Mekong-Asia (in that order).

Last: This means Organisms can be negatively affected by plastic nanoparticles, not just in the seas and oceans but in freshwater bodies too 83% of all freshwater fish have been contaminated by plastics which run into the oceans or nearby streams.

Thanks Jean, I spent the day "Researching this from all around the World." All I can say is "Refuse Plastics items and Think Twice what your Diet is Telling you to EAT!. Plastics causes hormone issues in all humans it changes your DNA in young and old. That makes it 5 Generations of Humans have consumed plastics in the last 111 years. Don't forget It causes cancers along with emotions and physical illness.

P.s. Our family threw away all plastics and use "Glass Mason jars" for lunches, and storing foods, just a thought. I can tell you that "Plastics Affec- Alzheimer and Children with Autism." Scientists have done research for over 20yrs.

Cheap, easy to grow and abundantly available, seaweed will become the packaging of choice. It has many advantages over plastic. The Clean UP on Plastics has started in China. In 2018, seaweed, which can grow up to three metres per day, will emerge as an alternative raw material to oil. A quiet revolution is already taking place on the shores of the East China Sea, where the kelp industry is booming.
Several startups are pioneering the use of seaweed in a wide range of applications including biofuel, cosmetics, food and pharmaceuticals and edible water-bottle made from brown seaweed, "biodegr (edible)" cups made from agar, which is extracted from red seaweed (it is working on a straw made from the same material), perfume bottle made from seaweed.

By fermenting the seaweed, the raw material is released for the production of degradable, recyclable packaging materials. Jinjiang is China's biggest seaweed processing hub, selling 40,000 tonnes of the product each year. The city's seaweed industry produces a revenue of about two billion yuan (US$291 million) annually, Seaweed farming has even been shown to clean up the pollution from fish farms and kelp grows far more quickly than land plants, turning sunlight. The Ocean Future is Looking Brighter

  Lyn Replied:

sounds wonderful, the seaweed thing, not the plastics in the ocean lol

  Rjaatt Replied:

I have been doing a lot of research on it since we spoke. I just finished watching The Ocean Cleanup is a foundation that develops technologies to extract plastic pollution from the oceans and prevent more plastic debris from entering ocean waters.
Founder: Boyan Slat

It has come a long way, it is too go into effect this year mid summer. Such a young man is doing such great things we need more people like him who wants to help America the World be Great!

  Rjaatt Replied:

P.s. Lyn, because I am so sheltered and always have been, I don't know anything about the world except what people mention, I don't watch News, I don't have Cable or any TV other then Netflix or Hulu. Other then that the computer is only used for a few things I find like this place.

I put in: Free online diet tracking and this place was the 8th place I tried. But anyway you are teaching me a lot about things and showing me the other side that most don't look at. Yes everything looks great but there are also down sides or consequences to these diets, or programs, or events, or information. So I am learning to look at both sides not just one side.

So Thank you so much!

The 4 hungriest animals
1. The American Pygmy Shrew (Sorex hoyi) With a pulse clocking in at more than a 1000 per minute, the 5 cm long animals typically live barely a year.

2. The Blue Whale (Balaenoptera musculus) As the largest animal ever to have lived you'd expect the blue whale to be a good eater. 30 meters long and weighing some 170 tons, it eats up to 3,6 tons of krill (a type of plankton) a day. That's equivalent to a daily intake of 1.5 million Calories

3. The Humming Bird (Trochilidae) With its heart beating up to 20 times a second during hovering flight, humming birds need lots of food to maintain their phenomenal flight engines powering their wings which can flap up to 80 times a second. They eat up to twice their weight in nectar every day making them not only the hungriest birds but the hungriest animals outside the insect realm.

5. The Star-Nosed Mole (Condylura cristata) If you are hungry, you want to eat. Quickly. By that measure the star-nosed mole must be one of the hungriest animals around - because it eats faster than any other mammal. It , both, finds and swallows its food typically in less than a quarter of a second. Which is about as fast as you blink.

Sea sponges were the first animals on Earth. Diet: Sponges are filter feeders. Most sponges eat tiny, floating organic particles and plankton that they filter from the water the flows through their body. Food is collected in specialized cells called choanocytes and brought to other cells by amoebocytes. Hawksbill Turtles and Angelfish are 2 vertebrate species that eat sponges, and there are some sea slugs and other invertebrates that can eat them.

The tribes in the Philippines eats sea sponges for there ritual. The humans die after 5 hrs. Their bodies then are thrown away to the sea so that their god will give them blessings ...

  Rjaatt Replied:

Earth never gets water added to it--nor does water disappear from the earth. Water is constantly recycled in a process known as the hydrologic or water cycle. Fresh water is more scarce than you might think. 97% of all the water on the earth is in the oceans, and so only 3% is fresh water.

The average adult human body is 50-65% water. The percentage of water in infants is much higher, typically around 75-78% water, dropping to 65% by one year of age. Body composition varies according to gender and fitness level because fatty tissue contains less water than lean tissue.

Water regulates the temperature of plants and transports nutrients through them. Plants contain even more water than animals do -- most of them are anywhere from 90 to 95 percent water

Finally, as pointed out, humans are animals, so go with the animal stats for humans. 68% water about average in a dog, cat, rabbit or bird A bird's body has 67% water.

  Rjaatt Replied:

How much water does Earth have? There are more than 326 million trillion gallons of water on Earth. Less than three percent of all this water is freshwater and of that amount, more than two-thirds is locked up in ice caps and glaciers. The continent of Antarctica has been losing more than 100 cubic kilometers (24 cubic miles) of ice per year since 2002. Energy to melt ice can come from sources besides direct solar energy.

As the sweat evaporates, the body cools down. If, as in the UK, our skin temperature is warmer than the external temperature we are also able to lose heat to the environment, termed 'dry heat loss'. ... The body would be completely dependent on sweat.

Now to say all of that for a reason this is the future of HUMANS in the next 50 to 100yrs:
What are the symptoms of heat in the body?
Symptoms of heat exhaustion include:

confusion.
loss of consciousness.
vomiting.
muscle cramps.
body temperature of 104ºF or higher.
elevated heart rate.
rapid breathing.

Humans have to maintain a core body temperature of 37 °C. To ensure that we can always cool off, we keep our skin at around 35 °C. This implies that a wet-bulb temperature of 35 °C or above, if it was sustained for more than a few hours, would be fatal.
